Apa pula sumbangan besar Abdullah Badawi (2003-sekarang) Perdana menteri Malaysia yang ke-5? Beliau telah membina asas pengdemokrasian yang selama ini sangat ditakuti ia itu memberi ruang k epada segenap lapisan masyarakat Malaysia tak kira siapa dan kumpulan mana, NGO dan politik, menyuarakan pandangan dan pendapat dengan sekatan yang sangat minima.






KUALA LUMPUR 16 Mac - Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi berjanji akan meneruskan kerja-kerja yang membawa manfaat kepada pembangunan Islam dan ummah walaupun selepas persaraan beliau.
"Saya dikurniakan ijazah ini pada saat saya hendak bersara, tetapi walaupun selepas persaraan, saya tetap akan meneruskan kerja-kerja yang bermanfaat demi Islam dan ummah," katanya.
Beliau berucap selepas menerima Ijazah Kehormat Doktor Falsafah (PhD) Pemikiran dan Ketamadunan Islam daripada Sultan Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah di Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) di sini hari ini.
Abdulllah merupakan individu pertama yang menerima anugerah itu sebagai mengiktiraf dan menghargai sumbangan beliau kepada pembangunan pemikiran Islam khususnya melalui pendekatan Islam Hadhari.
Perdana Menteri berharap 10 prinsip Islam Hadhari mampu menyelesaikan masalah-masalah yang dihadapi oleh dunia Islam dan boleh dilaksanakan sebagai pendekatan komprehensif dalam pembangunan ummah, masyarakat dan negara.
"Di peringkat antarabangsa, saya percaya Islam Hadhari mampu mencerminkan Islam sebagai agama yang toleran dan penyayang yang memfokuskan kepada kesederhanaan, tetapi saya mahu tekankan bahawa Islam Hadhari bukan agama baru atau mazhab baru.
"Islam Hadhari memberi penekanan kepada Islam dalam kehidupan harian umatnya, ia menjadi panduan kepada orang Islam pada zaman moden ini," katanya.
Abdullah turut menekankan kepada keperluan mempromosi sikap tolak ansur antara budaya dan ketamadunan Islam dengan Barat.
Beliau berkata, masyarakat dunia perlu mencipta lebih banyak inisiatif antara budaya seperti mengajar subjek perbandingan agama dan budaya di institusi pengajian masing-masing.
Perdana Menteri berkata, cabaran umat Islam sekarang ialah merealisasikan dialog di antara Barat dan dunia Islam menggunakan pendekatan kesederhanaan yang mampu memenuhi kehendak semua pihak.
Abdullah berkata, sekarang bukan masanya untuk merintih mengenai ketidakadilan pada masa lampau, menuding jari kepada mana-mana pihak atau menyalahkan mana-mana agama.
"Namun, sebarang dialog antara agama hanya memberi erti apabila dilaksanakan sebagai proses dua hala dalam suasana yang adil, aman dan saksama," katanya.
Terdahulu, Sultan Ahmad Shah bertitah, penganugerahan ijazah kehormat kepada Abdullah dibuat bagi mengiktiraf dan menghargai sumbangan beliau menggalakkan urus tadbir masyarakat yang baik.
Baginda bertitah, sepanjang pentadbirannya sebagai Perdana Menteri, Abdullah berjaya mempromosi hubungan muhibah antara masyarakat dengan budaya di peringkat tempatan dan antarabangsa.
Titah baginda, antara sumbangan penting Abdullah ialah penubuhan Suruhanjaya Pelantikan Kehakiman (SPK) dan Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) yang mencerminkan ketelusan kerajaan dalam menentang rasuah.
Turut hadir pada majlis konvokesyen khas itu ialah Menteri Pengajian Tinggi, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Menteri Besar Pahang, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaacob, Presiden UIAM, Tan Sri Mohd. Sidek Hassan dan Rektor UIAM, Prof. Datuk Dr. Syed Arabi Idid.
